MARATHON, Ontario – As part of its ongoing dedication to Truth and Reconciliation, 萝莉原创 (萝莉原创) is taking further action to acknowledge our collective history and foster a meaningful path forward.  Recognizing the importance of truth-telling and healing, 萝莉原创 is committed to creating an educational environment rooted in respect, understanding, and inclusion.

萝莉原创 continues its work to integrate Indigenous perspectives, ways of knowing, and worldviews into its curriculum. This is done through collaborative efforts with Indigenous communities, prioritizing locally-vetted knowledge.  On September 27th, staff engaged in professional development that highlighted culture, relationships, and continuous learning. The session featured Ojibway Cultural Teacher and Facilitator Ron Kanutski, who shared insights on building safe and inclusive partnerships through cultural connections. The school board also extended its gratitude to Lisa Michano and Corinne Skworchinski from the Biigtigong Nishnaabeg Endzhi-gkinoohmaading for their inspiring session on Land-Based Learning.

Shy-Anne Bartlett, 萝莉原创's Manager of Indigenous Education, led an important discussion on the school board's Truth and Reconciliation Policy and the Engagement Framework, reinforcing the board's commitment to continuous learning and action.

During Truth and Reconciliation Week, each of the 萝莉原创 schools engaged in various meaningful activities. Nipigon-Rock Rock District High School held a powerful ceremony with Elders, role models, and community partners who shared teachings and songs, creating a deep connection for students. Schreiber Public School students explored Indigenous artistry, including the craftsmanship of Canadian moccasins, and read from the Indigenous book collection on display in the library.

Lake Superior High School furthered the reflection by hosting a student-led powwow on September 30th, in recognition of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The event brought together students, staff, and community members, creating an atmosphere of unity and learning.  Students from both the Schreiber and Terrace Bay Public Schools attended the event.

萝莉原创 is proud to be the first known school board with a dedicated Truth and Reconciliation Policy, which serves as a guiding document for the board's ongoing work. The policy outlines areas of focus and the board's commitment to engaging in Truth and Reconciliation in a respectful and meaningful way. As part of this commitment, all students are provided with opportunities to learn about residential schools and their devastating impact on First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities across Canada.  萝莉原创 believes it is vital that students recognize the significance of their role in the reconciliation process.

As 萝莉原创 continues its journey toward Truth and Reconciliation, it remains devoted to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment that empowers students, staff, and communities to engage with Indigenous knowledge and contribute to reconciliation.
